6-29 FB Dairy Trying
Even though things are very tough in the dairy industry right now, the people in the Idaho Dairyman’s Association are doing everything they can to put together their own little stimulus package.
From dairy producer to University of Idaho agricultural economist to Gov. Butch Otter, you hear that times are tough in the dairy industry. Now news that Q fever is in Idaho probably even heightens the anxiety. But I can tell you, the dairy industry isn’t going down without a fight. The other day, I asked Bob Naerbout, Executive Vice President of Idaho Dairyman’s Association, about his thoughts. “It is correct that the total economy of rural Idaho is heavily reliant on the dairy industry and the dollars turn a lot on the dairy industry back to the rural community. It is important and it is also important for us to develop as much competition for dairy products for raw milk in Idaho and that’s the priority of the board Is to get companies such as the Chobani company to look at Idaho as a location for a new plant and we will continue to look for value added plants that locate to Idaho.”
