Producers here in the Pacific Northwest have hired their workers for the busy growing season, and with that comes farm labor issues. That’s where Washington Farm Labor Association comes in. Dan Fazio, Executive Director of WAFLA, talks about the busy summer ahead for he and his team.

FAZIO: The two areas we’re working on is helping people with the labor shortage. And then secondly what training can we do during this busy season. We hold mostly webinars during the summer because people just can’t travel to the sites. The June webinars are selling out, there’s only about ten or fifteen slots left and it’s on the 12, 14, and 19th, and it’s all about No Match - ICE, Department of Justice, Social Security Administration. You know, No Match kind of strategies when you get a letter from one of those organizations, or even any other organization - what policies and procedures you need to have in place if you receive information called the No Match. And of course people might be wondering what the heck is a “no match”, and that’s some information that could lead you to believe that one of your workers is using someone else’s social security number.

Washington Farm Labor Association webinars for July will focus on health care, workmen’s compensation, and transportation rules for agricultural employers transporting goods and people. For more information visit the Washington Farm Labor Association website at wafla.org.
