5-11 SS Huge Tom 2

Botched... I’ll let you think about that.

Yesterday Josh Mills and his dad were all set up for their turkey hunt very early in the morning. Josh was the shooter and his dad was going to do the calling. Both of them knew there were lots of birds in the area from prior experience. Ahh yes... a father and his son hunting together. It’s the story of America and let’s hear more. “I was in a pretty good position behind the gigantic pine tree and he was nestled up against a pine tree about 10 yards behind me. You want to put the caller behind the shooter because the birds are going to be looking for the person who is making the hen calling noises. Everything is going according to plan, the hens are working their way down the field, the gobblers coming and all of a sudden my dad starts calling that in and that big boss Tom all of a sudden starts coming toward  us on the run and then takes it’s time but it’s 80  yards, then 60 yards, 40 yards then all of a sudden it’s about 35 yards but I am on the wrong side of the tree. Because I can’t see, the bird has to come another 10 yards so I can see around the tree. I can’t move because the hens are already around the tree so I am pinned, I got nowhere to go, as soon as I try to flip to the other side of the tree the ladies, if you will, some eye movement and took off at Mach 5. I popped around the tree just in time to see that Tom sprinting away at about 55 yards which is altogether too far to shoot. I looked back at my dad and he said well did you want to pet him? That bird was there. I said I couldn’t see him and my dad never let me hear the end of it.
