5-9 SS Salmon on Salmon

We’re gonna talk salmon fishing. With the spring fishing season upon us, I caught up with old friend of the show Gabe Rostberg. He likes to fish for salmon at the confluence of the Little Salmon and main Salmon River. I wanted know about the rod he prefers, how he’s rigs it and his presentation. “A salmon steelhead 20 pound test ST 1025G Lumis. It’s a great drifting rod, it has great feel to it, great sensitivity, and it is a custom built rod, easy to fight fish on, really easy to cast. You drift fish, drift eggs with a little bit of yarn for color, use a little more color because the water is slightly murkier than I usually like to fish. But you have told me in the past you don’t like crystal-clear water. I like water with a little bit of color to it, that way I feel like fish are a little bit spooky year sometimes with crystal-clear water. They can’t find  as much cover as they can with murkier water, maybe like a little more steelhead green water. During salmon season I religiously check the USGS water conditions. At least for Idaho they have water conditions all over the state and there are multiple places along rivers where you can check temperature, the water depth and height, and CFS.
