What does a potato consultant do? In a recent conversation, with potato consultant Rob Thornton, I learned that this is a business which can be very helpful to potato producers and apparently, a potato consultants services are much needed and appreciated. Here he is.

"I’m a private consultant in the potato     industry all over the western United States. I basically take a look at the crops and   help each individual grower decide what varieties he should plant and what fertilizers to use, what herbicides, what insecticides, help them with harvest and help them with anything that they need. How do you make your analysis of what kind of potato crop they should grow? There are soil samples that get taken before the crop gets planted and so you take those and that is how you know what fertilizers to put on, I know a lot about the different types of varieties and what fertilizers to put on and what herbicides they can and cannot tolerate and they have heard that I have that type of expertise and so they hire me to help them out. Would another word for your job be agronomist? Yes. I work for myself and my companies name is Thornton Consulting Inc.  Do you have a website? No I do not need one because I have all the business I need."
