4-16 SS Spring Chinook
It is springtime and when springtime comes, not only do the buds come out on the trees but we start to think Chinook .
Well it’s just about that time of the year when Chinook are running in the Northwest but before you pull out your fishing gear, let’s check in with the expert himself, Josh Mills: “The Chinook season shows it is a pretty good return coming up the Columbia system. These are the spring Chinook that I so highly prized and valued by anglers. A lot of the action starts right about now, I think my uncle is down on the Columbia today himself and it is a real tight season, especially in the early season for these fish that will eventually make their way up to the Clearwater basin in Idaho and these fish are fat, sassy and chromed, especially around the Portland area. The guys spend a lot of time on the Columbia may be around the I-5 bridge, the railroad bridge, and then from the mouth of the river itself all the way progressing up the Columbia. It is purely a trolling fishery with some guys running hog lines. They are trolling Herring and quick fish and it is a busy time of year around Portland. The Willamette channel is filled fishing. Checked the regulations continuously.
