4-12 IAN Farm Pig App

 I get all of this information coming my way and something that piqued my interest came from the marketing director of the Farm Progress Show.  It was suggested that I be on the lookout for a smart phone app called the pig app.  I couldn’t resist so I called Rosemary Schimek, Corporate Marketing Director and asked:  “I don’t know what the pig app is, it certainly is not ours but I do know from the research standpoint that we survey farmers from across the nation and I would say as of a year ago, smart phone ownership where you need a smart phone to use the apps or some type of a smart device such as an iPad, or a tablet like a Galaxy which is like an android tablet, ownership of those types of devices was about 10% amongst all farmers. We also did some update surveys this past winter and found that that is rapidly changing. It is more than double on average across the nation. We are now closer to 20 to 21% of farmers owning a smart phone. I think that will expand exponentially as phone contracts come up, they are not going to a web enabled phone they’re going to go to a smart phone because of the ease of use and availability.
