Unique Apple Marketing Part 2

Unique Apple Marketing Part 2

Unique Apple Marketing Part 2. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

Apples and Cricket. The game cricket...not the insect. I have long been a fan of the game that includes wickets, a bowler, creases and stumps...even though it is hardly known here in the states. Rebecca Lyons, Export Marketing Manager for the Washington Apple Commission says they are partnering with a champion cricket team in India where she says cricket is extremely popular.

LYONS: It’s huge. It’s actually the second largest sport in the world after soccer. It’s very popular not only among men, it’s also popular among women and children and it’s that universal appeal that really makes us want to partner and to link ourselves with that sport.

The Apple Commission is partnering with the Chennai India Super Kings. Lyons says that besides being popular with the whole family is is really one of the only things that has managed to bring together a very diverse country.

LYONS: Chennai is one of the three main cities - metro areas in India. It’s also a very important port for Washington Apples and about 60% of Washington apple imports go through the Port of Chennai so on a couple of different levels it’s a very good partnership.

That’s today’s Fruit Grower Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
