2-23 SS Rhett 4
Summarizing the unbelievable drama, Capt. Rhett Morris had been scuba diving in 18 feet of water looking for schools of fish so that he could bring his clients there and increase the opportunities for a successful fishing trip. In dark, murky water he and his partner were all of a sudden confronted by a massive bull shark. The shark had opened and slammed its jaws and when the right moment presented itself, the 2 divers went for the surface. “So we get up, just below the surface, the shark is circling us slowly. Just as we hit the top of the water, she went straight down. In my mind, I took that as a very bad sign because typically when a large shark wants to attack something near the surface, it will go straight down so it can get a good attack position coming from the bottom up. So at that point we are thinking, how are we going to get into the boat, because it was very rough seas. There were 25 knot winds and we had no ladder to get back into the boat. By the grace of God Almighty, all of a sudden the back of the boat got buried in the trough of a wave. That made it extremely easy for us to hook our arms onto the gunwale. As we hooked our arms on, the wave went through, the transom of the boat went flying up and literally flipped us into the boat like we had practiced it for months.” Are they safe or not? Tomorrow we conclude the story.
