CRP Signup Set For March & Ag Expo

CRP Signup Set For March & Ag Expo

The USDA will be holding a four week general signup for the Conservation Reserve Program from March 12 to April 6. The CRP, a voluntary program available to agricultural producers, is aimed at environmentally sensitive land. Benefits from enrolling land in the program include improving water quality, reducing soil, erosion, creating wildlife habitat, and improving air quality by lowering wind erosion. Michael Scuse, Under Secretary for Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services, talks about the CRP programs’s success.

SCUSE: The CRP has a twenty-five year legacy of successfully protecting the nation’s natural resources through voluntary participation while providing significant economic environmental benefits to rural communities across the United States.

At present, roughly 30 million acres are enrolled in CRP, but as of September 30 6.5 million acres are set to come out of the program, but as Scuse notes...

SCUSE: With this general sign up USDA seeks to enroll as many acres as we possibly can.

The Spokane Ag Expo is February 7 through the 9 at the Spokane Convention Center and boasts one of the largest if not the largest farm machinery show in the Inland Northwest. More than 250 ag suppliers and service companies will be on hand. Educational seminars will also be presented during the Expo covering a variety of farm and ranch topics.
