Sign Up Has Begun for DCP and ACRE Programs

I’m KayDee Gilkey with the Northwest Farm and Ranch Report after this.

The 2012 Direct and Counter-Cyclical Program (DCP) and the Average Crop Revenue Election Program (ACRE) enrollment began Monday, January 23rd. DCP and ACRE are Federal farm programs which provide payments to producers of eligible crops in order to provide a financial farm safety net.

Gerri Richter, Program Specialist for the Washington State Farm Service Agency, shares that the sign up period for the 2012 program has been reduced from years past.

Richter: “This year the DCP and ACRE program sign up is a lot shorter -- beginning this Monday and ending June 1st-- so it’s important that producers get in quickly in order to get signed up and get their signature requirements met.”

In addition to the shortened sign up period Richter shares another change to 2012 programs.

Richter: “The biggest change for the DCP and ACRE program this year, the payment acres increased from 83.3 percent base acres to 85 percent and there are no provisions for direct payments.”

Numerous resources are available to help producers make informed decisions on program eligibility. FSA county office staff can answer many questions on program rules, application procedures and possible benefits.
