Yet another way of tackling an age-old problem. Odor. It’s big business in agriculture, particularly if you’re in the dairy business or any CAFO operation.
Anaerobic digesters, EnviroTech Systems which produces a different type of digester, a company out of Texas that has an enzyme emulsion which I recently reported on. Well now in a state that produces a lot of barley, that being Idaho, we may have a different kind of odor eater. The Minnesota Barley Growers Association is funding a research project that could increase the use of barley straw as an odor-reducing agent in confined animal feeding operations. “One of the qualities that barley straw has and is really unique is its ability to attract and maintain odors in the straw. They vent and exhaust air through the barley straw. That retains the stench in the barley straw and it is not sent into the atmosphere. This has been a big benefit.”
