1-19 IAN Socioeconomic

At what point does political correctness become laughable? CropLife America, an organization surrounding the crop protection industry, will release the results of a new report detailing the socio-economic impact and spinoff effects of crop protection products in U.S. agriculture. Socio-economic impact of pesticide use? What? I called up CropLife America spokesperson Mary Emma Young.  “The socio-economic implications of putting fertilizer on your plants? CropLife America Is going to be releasing a report looking at the socio-economic impact of crop protection products and what this means for US agricultural production and beyond to the broader economy as well. The report says that there are spinoff effects in which jobs are created in a number of other sectors. So good healthy crops lead to good healthy economy by helping people get jobs, helping people eat, etc. etc. Exactly I like to think of it as a productive agriculture helps make a productive economy.” Okay. Now I get it. It all makes sense and maybe I overreacted to the term socioeconomic being tied to a field full of sugar beets. My bad.
