Do Gooders Work To Ban Carriage Rides

A Christmas Tree is now a holiday tree, food police want to regulate the calorie contents of your plum pudding and if animal activists have their way, dashing through the snow in a one horse open sleigh will become merely a line in a carol, ( can we still use the word carol?) I’m Susan Allen stay tuned for Open Range. There is nothing more magical than a carriage ride through Central Park at Christmas time but if animal rights groups can get a carriage horse ban passed they will soon be outlawed. And if that happens we can expect fall –out here in the liberal Northwest as well…  no buggy  rides through Oregon vineyards, sleigh rides in Sun Valley or Leavenworth or buckboards in the pumpkin patch.  All because a group called Friends of Animals is petitioning to do away with horse drawn carriages saying the animals are over worked and frighten easily and cite the fact there have been seven incidents this year involving traffic .  NYC Mayor Bloomberg disagrees and believes the current animal welfare standards ensure the good care of  carriage horses  Once again do- gooders don’t comprehend the ramification of their misguided  actions.  What happens to the  unemployed 216 carriage horses ? Most rescues are full and turning equines away. These so called “animal lovers” could be giving these older  horses a one way ticket to a slaughter house. Once again a tiny minority undermines our freedom, be it publically celebrating  Christmas, a sleigh ride in Central Park or even owning a  carriage company.  What do you want to bet live nativity scenes will be the next target for animal activist and anti- Christian  brigade .
