Hort Part 2

Hort Part 2

Hort Part 2. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

Matthew Whiting with WSU is one of many industry experts that will be attending and presenting at this years 107th Annual Washington State Horticultural Associations Convention and Expo, Dec. 5, 6, and 7 at the Wenatchee Convention Center. But what does someone like Whiting get out of attending the meeting?

WHITING: I will be speaking on Wednesday at the cherry session and speaking on Tuesday at another panel but I’ll be there all three days of course because it’s a super opportunity for me as a researcher to reconnect with a broad base of industry representatives. So you’ve got people from around the region and all different aspects of the production scheme from growers to nursery people.

This year’s meeting theme is " Finding the Tipping Point; What Will be the Drivers that Change Our Industry?."

WHITING: You bring together a real broad base of expertise and it’s a great chance to rub elbows with these guys and here’s the latest update in their work and r find out what’s happening. For example there’s a session on Wednesday looking at pears where we’ve got some international experts. Always a good chance to highlight some of the work that’s going on around the world. I think the Hort Association does a nice job of every year bringing in a couple of key experts to highlight what’s happening in different parts of the world.

And Whiting says there really is something for everyone.

WHITING: You always get a nice mix of some practical presentations, some nuts and bolts, some how-to kinds of presentations in combination with some of those that are addressing longer term issues.

That’s today’s Fruit Grower Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
