Beef Counts roll-over auction means beef for the needy

Washington Ag Today November 9, 2011 A roll-over auction of an Angus heifer at Stockland Livestock in Davenport this past weekend raised nearly eight-thousand dollars for the Beef Counts program in Washington. The funds are used by the beef industry program to buy beef for donation to Second Harvest for distribution to the needy. Agri Beef Company provides the beef at wholesale cost as well as matches the funds raised at the sale.

Ed Field Executive Director of the Washington Cattle Feeders Association worked on the committee that put the event together.

Field: “As Cattle Feeder Association we really appreciate that beef is getting to the people that need it, that aren‘t getting enough protein. So we are very pleased to do our part to support this roll-over auction and to year-round support the Beef Counts program so we can put good beef protein into the hands of people are not getting the protein they need everyday.”

Jason Clark is the President of Second Harvest and says the need is greater than ever. He has seen what it means to families to receive the beef.

Clark: “We’ve distributed 15-thousand roasts since this program started last year. And if you could just see the looks on the faces when the families see that they are getting a nice pot roast to take home it is pretty incredible. I think everyone who is involved in one of those distributions, it makes you very grateful for the things you have in your life, and I hope it inspires more folks to help out.”
