Washington potato production up

Washington Ag Today November 10, 2011 The first estimate of Washington’s 2011 potato crop from the National Agricultural Statistics Services puts production at 99.2 million hundredweight, up 11 percent from 2010. Yields were down 40 hundredweight an acre from last year to 620 hundredweight, but planted and harvested potato acres increased by 25-thousand from 2010 to 160-thousand acres. NASS says yields from early digs were lower than last year due to immaturity.

Idaho’s potato production was up 12 percent over last year and nationally the fall potato crop increased five percent from 2010.

The late harvest had NASS re-checking with some farmers this fall and as a result Washington’s spring wheat yields increased from a September report by a bushel an acre to 62 bushels, a record high yield. Barley yields increased two bushels an acre from the September report to 74 bushels.

Now this from Stockland Livestock.

This is Jack McQuinness at Stockland Livestock in Davenport. We had a big sale here on Monday. Right at 17-hundred cattle on the market. Cows and bulls fully steady. Feeder cattle steady on most classes. Maybe a little pressure on some of the cattle over 750 pounds, but by and large a steady market. Most of the cows in the 50 to 60 dollar range. The bulls 60 to 70. Sell cattle every Monday here at Stockland and always feature our feeders and stockers at one o’clock. Thanks for Listening.

Thanks Jack.
