Wine Caucus

Wine Caucus

Wine Caucus. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

The wine industry is looking to keep the information flowing this year and ahead of their annual meeting in February they are holding a caucus to discuss financial sustainability. Sara Cornell, Director of Constituent Services for the Washington Association of Wine Grape Growers.

CORNELL: This is our first ever grower caucus and the genesis of the caucus came from the concept that more and better information about the marketplace can help growers succeed in business. So on November 10th at the Pasco Red Lion Hotel, the Washington Association of Wine Grape Growers is holding an industry discussion about profitability in the current marketplace.

She says they will be addressing a number of different topics.

CORNELL: Economic and demographic shifts influencing shopping habits and purchasing decisions. What’s selling and how Washington stacks up. Perspective from nurseries, what’s in demand. How to read ag stats, what they do and don’t say. Cost of production.

Cost is $75 and the event runs from 9:30 until 3. Cornell says there is a bonus.

CORNELL: The first 100 to sign up will receive a book from the keynote speaker, Mike Veseth. His book is “Wine Wars” and he’s probably better known as the wine economist. He’s an authority on globalization and global wine markets.
