10-13 FB Idaho/Taiwan
Governor Otter recently said that “Export markets are important to Idaho’s economy and for Idaho wheat growers, adding that it’s in our own best interest to maintain strong, resilient relationships with loyal customers.
Who are these customers? Huge countries? Well there is one country that is 1/3 the size of Tennessee and yet is the sixth-largest overseas market for U.S. agricultural goods. The name of that country which lives next door to China is Taiwan. Apparently the Taiwanese have a huge appetite for Idaho wheat. Here is executive director of the Idaho wheat commission, Blaine Jacobson. “Taiwan has been an exceptional customer over the years, the United States has better than 90% market share in Taiwan. They like Pacific Northwest wheat, they like Idaho wheat, in the last 10 years this is the 4th time that a team from Taiwan has been to Idaho and each time they have signed a two-year letter of intent, the last letter of intent was 2 years ago and so they are coming in again to sign another one and indicate again their satisfaction with wheat from Idaho.”
