10-12 FB WB 456

In a candid discussion with WestBred Regional Manager for the Pacific Northwest, I asked Kevin Hodges what the WB 456 variety offers farmers compared with other competing soft white winter wheats. “The features that growers in Southern Idaho have liked about WB 456 have been experiencing lower grain dockage at the elevator, the variety thrashes very well and growers have increased bottom line profitability from that.” How does WB 456 stack up against other winter soft whites for growers in Southern Idaho?  “Higher yields through higher test weights, earlier maturity, shorter plant height which has provided an agronomic advantage.” We can’t leave the discussion without mentioning foliar disease.  “With this wheat, during the 2011 growing season, farmers only sprayed once if at all.”
