10-4 SS Bryan Bartsch Wolf
Northern Rocky Big Horn hunters turned into northern Rocky Wolf huntees.
Yesterday we left Bryan Bartsch and his brother in the Northern Rockies in a pass where a pack of wolves led by a big white wolf was closing in on them. They were threatened and we pick up the story from there. “the White Wolf came around the right-hand side, my brother noticed him about 200 yards on the right, he was jogging through some brush. You could just kind of see his back slipping through the bush. He had his head down and his tail down. There were 2 or 3 wolves up on the left-hand side on the ridge. They had come down to the valley bottom where we were and they were a couple of hundred yards away. The alpha male that was bedded in the back got up and started coming towards us. They have a U-shaped trap and at 100 yards that White Wolf who had come around on our right hand side decided to go on a dead run. At 100 yards he turned from a jog to an absolute dead run straight for us. At that time I glanced over on the left and the black wolves were coming on the left, those things were coming fast and furious. In 1 min. they went from being 400 yards away hunting a caribou calf to basically coming right in on all of us. That’s when we shot a few times to scare them away. It was something that I will never forget. It was really cool.
