USDA pays over $800,000 to Washington biofuel producers

Washington Ag Today September 28, 2011 Six Washington energy producers will receive nearly 830-thousand dollars in total from the USDA’s Bioenery Program for Advanced Biofuels. The program’s payments are based on the amount of biofuels a recipient produces from renewable biomass, other than corn kernel starch. From things like crop residue or animal waste or vegetable oil.

The single largest payment in Washington, nearly 774-thousand dollars, is going to Imperium Grays Harbor for biodiesel trans esterification. Payments are also going to producers with anaerobic digesters.

A reminder that this Friday, September 30th is the sales closing date for federal crop insurance for the 2012 crop year for several Pacific Northwest crops including winter and spring wheat. This is the second year for the combo policy and Jo Lynne Seufer with the regional USDA Risk Management Agency Office says sales were up in the first year of that product.

Seufer: “Even in our first year of combo throughout Idaho, Oregon and Washington we had an additional about 107-thousand acres of wheat participating in our program.”

RMA previously announced the projected price for winter wheat at $8.05 a bushel. Winter barley is $6.33 a bushel.

The September 30th sales closing date also applies to fall planted dry peas and lentils with winter coverage.
