9-13 IAN Vilsack Parrot
Want to cure America’s economic ills? Call me a fool but my 1st thought would not be to go on a bus ride through the fields of the Midwest. That didn’t stop our president. President Obama believes the rest of the country can learn something from Rural America - that's why he recently spent three days traveling through rural communities in Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois. U.S. Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack joined the President for the Midwestern Bus Tour and had this to say, But before you listen, see if it doesn’t sound “ready”. At each stop we focused on the administrations efforts to create jobs and drive economic growth. From a bringing broadband access to 7 million rural residents to upgrading water infrastructure to nearly 4000 rural communities, the president talked about his commitment to rural America and heard from local residents about how we can support jobs in their communities. The centerpiece of the trip was the rural economic forum that brought together 200 rural business owners, farmers and others with members of the president’s cabinet, to discuss their ideas for revitalizing the rural economy. Working groups focused on opportunities for job creation in rural communities like agricultural innovation and improved infrastructure. They learned about the SBA’s plan to double loan assistance to small rural businesses. And they discussed an historic initiative a to build a bio fuel-based aviation and marine industry that will power our militaries ships and planes. Some of the folks in the audience expressed amazement that the president of the United States would spend an entire day let alone a 3 day bus trip focusing on rural America. Well I’m not surprised, the president has shown his commitment to small towns since day one of his presidency.” Nice Speech by Secretary Vilsack…obviously written by the President’s staff.
