A profusion of recent wildfires caused a multitude of destruction across Idaho, threatening land, structures and animals alike. In total, over 40,000 acres across the state were up in flames and with hotter temperatures to come this summer, such a massive threat has just begun. Here is Idaho Cattlemens Association Communications director Jessie Thompson who tells us that there are some major concerns, not just related only to Idaho:  “Most of these fires are caused by dry lightning and the cattle producers in our state are the 1st to feel the implications. They are the ones who use these public lands as a way of grazing their livestock. A lot of the southern Idaho area was hit which was very detrimental. If I understand things correctly there is a little bit of a supply problem on the beef side because of so much devastation weatherwise, as an example, down in Texas. It is so dry that Texas is not supplying feeders. This adds to the problem I would suspect. Yes. The latest weather implications that our nation has been having has definitely shrunk our cattle herd. It is currently at the lowest level that it has ever been since 1973.
