Oregon wheat top planted variety in Washington

Washington Ag Today July 19, 2011 A soft white winter wheat developed at Oregon State University was the number one wheat in Washington this year in terms of planted acres. The Washington Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service reports that Clearfield ORCF 102 was sown on nearly 237-thousand acres. That knocked the previous leading winter wheat variety Eltan, a Washington State University wheat, into second place. It was planted on just under 202-thousand acres.

The variety report also shows that total club wheat acres in the state, both winter and spring are down about five-thousand from last year. The top club variety continues to be Bruehl.

Now this from Stockland Livestock.

“This is Jack McQuinness at Stockland Livestock in Davenport. 550 cattle on our market. Cows and bulls, maybe a buck higher on the better higher yielding cows. Some of these cows weighing over 13-hundred pounds into the mid to high to high 70’s last week. Most of the trade high 60s and low 70s. Bulls topped at 95 and we will call that market steady. Feeder cattle fully steady. A decent run. Some 775 pound steers as high as a dollar 37-50. Still good demand but a light supply of lightweight calves, steers and heifers. We will be selling cattle every Monday here. We will have our next small animal sale on July 26th. Don’t forget the horse sale on the 30th. That is all here in Davenport. Thanks for listening and thanks for your business.

Thanks Jack.
