Welcome to Open Range, I’m Susan Allen. Stay tuned because after the break I’ll check in with our field reporter, Greg Martin for the AgriBeef Minute.

I’m Greg Martin with the Open Range AgriBeef Minute. July is Idaho Beef Month and Traci O’Donnell, Executive Director of the Idaho Beef Council explains what that means.

O’DONNELL: Well Beef Month is a celebration of beef’s contribution to Idaho’s economy and it’s the celebration of beef for summer grilling. So for over a decade, Idaho’s cattle ranching families have been putting beef on America’s dinner table and as one of the largest agricultural sectors here in Idaho, Governor Otter has declared July as Idaho Beef Month.

She says they use the promotion to help raise awareness for beef and the beef industry. So what can the consumer expect?

O’DONNELL: We do a number of consumer events and outreach and education programs geared around educating the public about beef and Idaho’s cattle ranching families. A couple of the activities we have is we have Flat Iron Fridays going on with one of the radio stations where people can win a barbecue for their office or their place of employment. We have billboards up across the state, we’re a big sponsor of the Snake River Rodeo and just numerous other consumer events and activities we have planned for the month to raise awareness for Idaho’s beef industry.

I’m Greg Martin and that’s today’s AgriBeef Minute.

Thanks Greg. Don’t forget Greg will be back each Wednesday with the AgriBeef Minute. Agri Beef Co - Real Families, Great People, Exceptional Beef. I’m Susan Allen.
