Washington Farm Labor Association

Washington Farm Labor Association. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

Dan Fazio recently made a move from working with Farm Bureau to doing pretty much the same job with Washington Farm Labor Organization. He explains what that is.

FAZIO: Basically, we took all of the labor and employment division from the Washington Farm Bureau and formed a new association. It’s the Washington Farm Labor Association and it serves all seasonal employers whether they are farmers that are members of the Farm Bureau, or the Hort or the Potato and Onion association or any other the other associations that have seasonal employers as members.

He says the principle service is human resource consulting.

FAZIO: Briefly, an employer can send us in an HR related question and we will answer it – period. Our motto is, you can’t ask us a labor and employment question that we can’t answer. And right now, membership is free if you belong to any one of the associations that we work with. Farmers should go to wafla.org and sign up for the membership and shoot those questions to us.

In addition to the HR consulting they do offer other services.

FAZIO: We have a slew of other products and services that are related to the agriculture workforce.  Training is tops for us. We’ll be having webinars just about every week through the summer. As well as in person training. We have mid summer meeting being planned right now. We’re focusing on employment practices insurance and we’re also working on a healthcare product that will be helpful for employers.

That’s today’s Fruit Grower Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
