POET Energy CEO to testify at Senate hearing on high gasoline prices. Broin: Ethanol lowers shock of foreign oil price hikes, will do more in future. POET CEO Jeff Broin will outline how ethanol lowers gas prices by providing  competition to foreign oil and how that impact can be even greater withopen access to the U.S. fuel market at a Senate committee hearing in Washington. Here’s POET energy spokesperson Nathan shock: “The Senate agriculture committee is wisely holding hearings on high gas prices and what the agricultural sector can do to help address them. They are particularly focused on innovative farming practices. So what POET’s CEO is going to tell them is that ethanol has done a lot already. According to the Department of Energy ethanol is keeping gas prices lower by about $.17 per gallon currently but we can do much more. As ethanol is produced in larger quantities from cellulose and other energy crops and residues, there is much more that can be done in creating an ethanol industry that can keep high gas prices in check.
