Water Commission bill moves out of committee with a change
Washington Ag Today February 15, 2011 Legislation that would create a Washington State Water Commission to replace the state Department of Ecology’s Water Resources Program has been passed out of the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee. The sponsor of House Bill 1296, Representative Bill Hinkle of the 13th District, expressed appreciation for the bipartisan support of the legislation. Hinkle’s original bill would have had a Water Commission with six elected members and one appointed by the governor. The bill as passed out of committee was amended to have all the commission’s members appointed by the governor but with geographical representation. The governor and the Department of Ecology oppose the Water Commission bill. A counterpart to Hinkle’s bill in the Senate has not had a hearing. Now here is the report from Stockland Livestock. This is Jack McQuiness here at Stockland Livestock in Davenport. Five hundred head of cattle on our market on Monday. Cows and bulls stronger again. We had a top of 81-dollars for the best of the higher yielding cows. Bulls topped at 95-cents. We had a big 22-hundred pound bull topping the sale and that is probably the highest we have ever seen this bull market. A lot of bulls ins the 80 to 90 range. Feeder cattle same story there. Higher all the way around. These 550 pound steers up as high as a $1.51, $1.52. Heifers behind the steers probably five to six cents. Next week big sale, stock cows, feeder cattle and weigh up cows and bulls. All classes sell here at Stockland Livestock in Davenport. Thanks for listening. Thanks Jack.
