Seed Swap & Not a Government Issue

Seed Swap & Not a Government Issue. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

A new dietary guideline, “Let’s Move.” It seems a lot of time and money is being spent to battle obesity and promote healthy foods. Washington Congressman Doc Hastings is not sure that is really in the best interest of the government.

HASTINGS: I am somewhat critical of the government telling individuals what they can or cannot eat. Individuals are adults and we can make the decision of what we should or should not eat and we’re taught in grade school for goodness sakes that you should eat a balanced diet and that carries over into adulthood. I don’t think the federal government should be overly involved in these activities at all.

If you love to garden, like to eat local and love to share your bounty then this might be right up your alley. Tomorrow’s “Seed Swap” at the Basque Center in Downtown Boise is a chance to learn about gardening, share and listen to stories and is one of many events planned for the “Year of Idaho Food.” The event runs from 9:30 to 1:30 and might be a challenge for other communities across the northwest to organize their own events.

Now here’s today’s Washington Grange report.
