1-17 FB Elk Hazard
Idaho Department of Fish and Game is warning people that in the very rural area of Ririe, Idaho near Idaho Falls there are 200-300 elk who have migrated away from the Tex Creek Wildlife Management Area. Not only are these animals posing some disease threat due to their proximity to herds of cattle but they are also chowing down on stacks of hay. But there is another concern according to IDFG Regional Conservation Educator Gregg Losinski: “We want to thank IDT for moving portable signs up there and ask the public to heed those signs which are not standard. They mean something’s happening with wildlife that’s unusual. We’ve had at least one elk hit there already. No human injuries but if you’re in a small car and hit an elk, bad things can happen. It’s not just like a deer crossing sign.”
