Pre-proposals sought for specialty crop grants; Stockland Report

Washington Ag Today January 4, 2011 The Washington State Department of Agriculture says the state will be receiving more than three-million dollars through the USDA’s Specialty Crop Block Grant Program.

Private and non-profit organizations, commodity commissions and other pubic entities may request funds for projects of 75-thousand to 250-thousand dollars that benefit the competitiveness of fruit, vegetable, nursery and turf grass production. The WSDA says it will also set aside a portion of the three-million dollars for small projects of 10-thousand to $74, 999. All projects must be completed within three years.

The first step in applying for grant funding is to submit a brief pre-proposal to WSDA. That can be emailed to specialty

crop@agr.wa.gov The pre-proposals are due at WSDA by 4 p.m. January 31st. Application Information and forms are available at the WSDA website.

Now the report from Stockland Livestock.

“This is Jack McQuiness with Stockland Livestock here in Davenport. Quiet run of cattle for the first sale of the year but it was a very strong market all the way round. A limited test on all classes but we did have a $70 top for some of these better quality, higher-yielding weigh up cows. Bulls topped at 73. That’s about what we had before the first of the year. We will sell cattle here every Monday at Stockland and don’t forget we have a big, special feeder, stock and bred cattle sale coming up on January 17th. That is all here at Stockland Livestock in Davenport. Thanks for listening.

Thanks Jack.
