Potato only diet ends with meal of meat and potatoes

Washington Ag Today December 10, 2010 Chris Voigt, the 20 Potatoes a Day dieter, recently enjoyed his first non-potato only meal after 60 days by celebrating with the Head Start Preschool program in Moses Lake at their Winter Family Festival. And Voigt, who is the Executive Director of the Washington State Potato Commission, says that diet ending meal also had potatoes.

Voigt: “My first meal off the diet definitely had potatoes except it was potatoes with other stuff. So it was roasted potatoes with onions and peppers in it and of course I had a great beef taco with milk and a nice crunchy apple. So, potatoes, had potatoes but a few other items too.”

The beef at the festival came from the Washington State Beef Commission, the milk from the Washington State Dairy Products Commission and the apples from Stemlit Growers.

Looking back Voigt says those 60 days of eating only potatoes were worth it.

Voigt: “Absolutely! Just the media attention that this got I really think we moved the needle. I think we really convinced a lot of people that were skeptical before that potatoes are truly healthy and nutritious. And now our next step is taking that message to Washington D.C. and make sure the USDA gets potatoes back into some of their programs.”

Which, says Voigt, is what the potato only diet was about in the first place.

That’s Washington Ag Today. Brought to you in part by the Washington State Potato Commission. Nutrition today. Good health tomorrow. I’m Bob Hoff on Northwest Aginfo Net.
