Everybody Needs A Little Comfort

Everybody Needs A Little Comfort

Funny thing, in a recent article listing people’s favorite comfort foods there were several chicken, beef, and pork entrees, but not one comfort food dish that contained tofu. When it comes to comfort foods it seems the foods that really hit the mark for most people are ones that remind us of our childhood, making us feel cozy, safe, and satisfied. Now unless your Mom was a strict vegetarian it’s more than likely that on your list of comfort foods there resides at least one, if not all of the following, chicken ‘n’ dumplings, beef and noodles, pork chops and mashed potatoes, maybe grilled cheese, or better yet, how about a pieces of apple pie with a slice of cheddar cheese melted on top. Which comfort food clicks with each individual depends a lot on what part of the country you grew up in or whether you’re male or female. Guys lean towards the steak and potatoes end of the comforting spectrum and gals, to no one’s surprise, lean more towards desserts. In my family this rings pretty true, with my husband preferring pot roast surrounded with carrots, onions, and potatoes, while I will always pull out my Mom’s recipe for shortbread cookies when I’ve experienced an extremely stressful day.
