12-6 IAN Solar Dairy

 Another dairy gone solar. I’m David Sparks and I’ll be right back to tell you the specifics. Back in July I did a story on the Webb Farms Dairy which installed solar water heaters in an effort to save money on propane heat. Well, The Whiteside Dairy in Rupert, Idaho is keeping up with the Jones’s errrh…make that the Webb Farms Dairy. They’ve mounted 31 solar panels on the ground and here’s dairy owner Steve Whiteside to tell you about his operation. “We actually milk 3 times a day and we’re using hot water to wash our system. There’s 72 milking units it has to wash every 8 hours. We also have big silos that we have to wash and clean so we use a fair amount of hot water that we use. My intent is to heat the water with solar as opposed to propane.
