Overwhelming response to 20 Potatoes a Day Diet

Washington Ag Today October 8, 2010 Chris Voigt, the Executive Director of the Washington State Potato Commission is now eight days into his 20 Potatoes a Day Diet.

Voigt: “It is going good. I am surprised at how relatively easy it has been with the exception of Sunday. Sunday for whatever reason was kind of a difficult day. I was really having some pretty serious cravings for other food items.”

One other challenge, getting his normal work done with all the media attention his potatoes only diet has attracted.

Voigt: “You know the whole point of this was to try and get some media attention so that we could really divert it away from the diet and talk about the nutrition of potatoes. And it has been amazing. I though this was just going to be a little side project I could spend maybe a half hour and hour a day on but it has really blossomed into a reach across the entire country. Doing a lot of syndicated radio shows, drive-time radio, interviews all over the country, NPR, MSNBC, CBS news, the Laura Ingraham Show. It‘s pretty big.”

Voigt’s goal in undertaking this diet was to show that he can remain healthy while eating nothing but potatoes and potato products for 60 days. He arrived at the idea because the U.S. government deleted the vegetable from the Women, Infants and Children, or WIC program.
