Recalling Eggs & Dairy Products & Pear Harvest Underway

Recalling Eggs & Dairy Products & Pear Harvest Underway. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report. Well good news for pear lovers! Pear harvest has finally arrived across the northwest according to Kevin Moffitt with Pear Bureau Northwest. MOFFITT: The harvest has started. Seems as though they have started with the Star Crimson's already probably in the last week or so and there are some Bartlett's coming in to the packing houses right now so we are under way. Last year's pear crop was a record breaking and this year's estimates are down by about 11%. Earlier this week the CDC issued a massive recall of eggs from an Iowa egg producer due to possible salmonella contamination and that recall has just been increased to 380 million eggs and now includes Oregon and Washington products. Salmonella is also responsible for a recall of milk, half-and-half, cream, orange juice and buttermilk under the Umpqua Dairy, Cascade, Great Value, Lady Lee, Market of Choice and Sherm's brand labels here in the northwest. Ice cream and other dairy products, including sour cream and cottage cheese, are not being recalled. It is recommended you dispose of any of the products instead of trying to cook or use them. For questions about the egg recall visit the CDC website and for questions about the dairy recall visit umpquadairy.com. Now here's today's Washington Grange Report. (GRANGE) That's today's Northwest Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
