A Free Basic Health and Safety Workshop

Washington Ag Today August 13,2010 As the final element of a grant the Washington State Potato Commission received from the Department of Labor and Industries, the commission is offering a free Basic Health and Safety workshop on Friday, August 20th. Brandy Parker of the Washington State Potato Commission explains.

Parker: “Last year the Washington State Potato Commission provided a series of seminars on worker health and safety, and it was all funded by the Department of Labor and Industries. They have a Safety and Health Investment Project grant. And we found that the seminars and workbooks generated were extremely well received by members of the potato industry. So we wanted to offer this Basic Health and Safety workshop to not only the potato industry but other crop industries as well.”

In addition to training, Parker says participants will get something else.

Parker: “Yes. We will be handing out to all attending farm and facility workers a free DVD that will help the farm satisfy their audit requirements.”

To provide useful feedback and data, the commission need as many attendees as possible and since the workshop is only one-hour Parker says its hoped both managers and employees can attend.

The Basic Health and Safety Workshop will be August 20th at the Grant County Fire District #3, Central Avenue South in Quincy running from 10-11 a.m. You are asked to email

bparker@potatoes.com or call 509-765-8845 if you plan to attend.
