5-13 FB Wyoming Horse Slaughter

Blogger Michael Van Cassell of the Wyoming Tribune Eagle recently wrote:  “Slaughterhouse” Sue and fellow horse-eater Dave Duquette lobbying for support amid crowd of killer buyers at recent auction CHEYENNE — Rep. Sue Wallis is the subject of this attack because she’s interested in opening a horse slaughtering facility in Laramie County, according to the director of the Wyoming Livestock Board.” A plan to give the Wyoming Livestock Board an alternative to selling abandoned horses is getting stiff opposition from animal rights advocates.

The plan by members of the United Organization of the Horse is to set up something like a triage operation for abandoned or unwanted horses. The horses would be screened and provided rehabilitation, training or slaughter, depending on their condition. The plan is ultimately to market horse meat in the state and was signed into law by Gov. Dave Freudenthal.

I asked Representative Wallis why people were so sensitive to the concept of horse slaughter: “Good question. I think what we are seeing here is a quite successful campaign by the major animal rights activists who are working toward enforcing a vegan diet on the whole nation and they see horses as an easy target.
