Spring Weather Outlook

Spring Weather Outlook. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report. Yesterday we took a brief look at the spring weather pattern with NW Ag meteorologist Tim Creek and he sees a continued early spring but as he mentioned, frost may be an issue for orchardists. Even so Creek doesn't feel this will be a major problem. He says the el Niño weather the northwest has been having is likely to shift a bit. CREEK: As we get into the latter part of April and into May I think that we are going to see a little bit of a ridge of high pressure developing over southern California and high pressure will be centered over western Canada into Alaska and as a result we'll see a little bit stronger of a weather pattern into the region and that would give us more frequent storm activity but still with near normal temperatures and near normal precipitation. Of course we have been surprised before and the weather can really surprise you in a moments notice but still Creek sees a continued el Niño weather pattern over the next 6 weeks or so. A quick check of the Old Farmer's Almanac extended weather for the coast calls for near normal temperatures and below average precipitation. For the intermountain region temperatures near normal and slightly above average moisture. Be sure and log on to www.aginfo.net for complete weather information and fruit frost reports. And enjoy the weather. That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
