Wine Tasting

Wine Tasting

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. Once again it is getting to be that time of year when many of you visit wine country. My recommendation is that you pick anytime other than a special Tasting weekend! Why fight the crowds? The wineries will be even happier to see you on another day. If you are venturing out to visit wineries or attending consumer wine tasting events; I want to offer some helpful hints about wine tasting etiquette. Going to a wine tasting, may seem simple, and you should have fun. But just like golf or tennis or any other sport there are some rules of etiquette. First of all, 70 – 80 percent of your ability to perceive taste comes from your sense of smell. So never wear perfume or aftershave! People are trying to smell the wine and very few things interfere with that more than cologne. Next – keep in mind it doesn't take more than an ounce to get a good taste. If it is busy in the winery, please don't park yourself in front of the table or tasting bar. When your wine taste is poured, step away, take your time examining, smelling and tasting the wine. If you elect to spit the taste out; then step back up to the bar and carefully spit into the vessel that is provided. Make sure that you aren't spitting or dumping into the water pitcher. I can't tell you how many times I've seen that done. Feel free to ask questions and make a few notes for future reference. And finally be aware of your consumption and preferably have a designated driver. And thanks for joining me on today' Vine to Wine.
