Fire and Ice

Fire and Ice

Cattle ranchers…listen very carefully. Run, don’t walk, down to your pharmacy and buy as much Beano and Gas-X as they will sell you. I’ll tell you why, next. Forget about Ford 150’s, Hummers and diesels…it’s Angus, Herefords, Charolais and the like.

Well they’re at it again. The folks who insist that cows are ruining the earth with their emissions. Author Michael Pollan's wrote a book “The Omnivore's Dilemma” which criticizes modern agribusiness. According to the book, agribusiness has lost touch with the natural cycles of farming.

I don’t know about any of that but the anti-meat people are saying the next big environmental no-no is eating beef because it’s bad for the environment. They’re saying cows are worse than cars and they generate 18 percent of the world's greenhouse-gas emissions. How about Africa’s 10 g’jillion wilderbeasts…or hippo’s. Are they flatulent friendly? Here’s Idaho Cattle Associations Tom McDonnel: “With the recent studies of EPA, they found 66% of the world’s nitrous oxide releases are caused by farming, the plowing and tilling of soil, so what are they going to do? Ban both meat and farming and just let the world starve to death?”

OK…let me take a crack at being an author with a re-write of Robert Frost’s poem “Fire and Ice”…First line: Some say the world will end in fire, Some say in ice. Let’s re-write that:

Take out fire…put in global warming due to methane emission . Take out ice…put in starvation.
