Getting Rid of Clog
Kleen Flo™ is a water soluble blend of sequestering and chelating agents used to prevent emitter plugging from iron, calcium carbonate and magnesium for use in irrigation systems. This is going to sound like an organic chemistry class, I know, but stick with it and perhaps mineral based clogging agents like calcium, iron, magnesium, etc won’t stick to your irrigation systems. There’s a medical process called chelation where someone’s blood is sent through a machine and dangerous metals like mercury are chemically dropped out. Same sort of idea with Kleen Flo which reacts with ferrous iron to form a stable complex by the process of chelation. Without getting technical, think of chelating agents as being similar to an ion exchanger (water softener). Chelating agents have unshared electron pairs which, in water readily join with metal ions, forming new complex compounds.
