NAWG CEO search update

NAWG CEO search update

Farm and Ranch December 1, 2009 The National Association of Wheat Growers search for a new CEO will soon enter the interview phase. NAWG is seeking a successor to Daren Coppock who is going to the Ag Retailers Association.

Wheat Growers President Karl Scronce of Oregon says the deadline for applications for the position was November 13th and a search committee went through the resumes last week.

Scronce: “Shortly in December, December 6th I believe, we are going to try set up and have interviews with a select several and hopefully by the end of the year we will have a person selected and on board.”

Scronce says NAWG has gotten some good applicants.

Scronce: “It seems good to me. I wasn‘t surprised. I was hoping that we would get applicants and we have. It is a good crop. I am looking forward to this.”

As a northwest producer Scronce is sorry to see Coppock go as he was from Oregon, but the NAWG president says the organization has some good staff members.

Scronce: “We have a couple full-time lobbyists. They are awesome. One is Cori Wittman. She is from Idaho. She is a farmer. I think she even went home and helped with harvest. What better person could you have on the Hill talking about farm bill issues than that. And then also Mark Gaede who works on environmental issues. Has good connections with the current administration. He represents wheat very well.”

And Coppock is serving NAWG part-time through December.
