Global Warming Poll & PETA Milk Dump

Global Warming Poll & PETA Milk Dump

Global Warming Poll & PETA Milk Dump plus Food Forethought. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

An animal rights organization planned to dump milk into the wastewater system of Rapid City, South Dakota. Officials in the state are responding to the PETA protest by matching donations of milk to give to needy families. Ag United Executive Director Steve Dick says while PETA is dumping milk - his group is sending donations to area food banks. Dick says the actions by PETA are unconscionable - especially at a time when many folks are going hungry during this Thanksgiving season.

DICK: To see what PETA is doing when so many families are suffering to pour milk down the drain, it’s just uncalled for in our society and I’m so glad to see that South Dakotans have stepped up and are will to donate milk to help families.

A new Washington Post-ABC News poll found that four out of five Americans believe global warming is happening. That’s 8 percent fewer than the previous year. The poll's findings also show that 55 percent of respondents think the United States should curb its carbon output even if major developing nations such as China and India do less. And the poll shows that a majority of respondents still support legislation to cap emissions and trade pollution allowances, by 53 to 42 percent.

Now with today’s Food Forethought, here’s Lacy Gray.

Well, one down and two to go in 2009.  I’m talking holidays of course. Thanksgiving actually went quite well at our house this year. It was a small gathering and a rather small turkey; at least that was the consensus when I brought it to the table, but still a pleasant holiday was had by all. I wasn’t too sure that any of us would be able to come up with an awful lot to declare thanks for this year, but as more often than not, I was wrong. There were the obvious declarations of thanks, for the food and the companionship, but there was also thanks given for some of the hardships our family has had to endure this year. What doesn’t kill you they say will make you stronger, and we are definitely one strong family! You also learn a lot from hardship and if anything we’ve learned that we can get along quite well without some of those niceties we’d grown accustomed to.  We’ve also been blessed with amazingly good health, our 89 year old mother can attest to that, and a much needed job came along just at the right time. So all in all I guess we remain a very thankful family.

Thanks Lacy. That’s today’s Northwest Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
