Dairy Recovery & Energy Agreement

Dairy Recovery & Energy Agreement plus Food Forethought. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

There has been a lot of concern over dairy prices in the past few months as many producer have been forced to cutback drastically or lose their operations. But there is good news on the horizon as World Agricultural Outlook Board Chair Gerry Bange says milk prices are slated to increase.

BANGE: The all milk forecast for 2009 was raised to $12.65, that’s an increase of .25 per hundred weight and looking at 2010 a very sharp increase in the all milk price to $16.50. That’s and increase of a $1.35 and at 16.50 if that comes to pass and we’re looking at an increase of nearly 30% in the milk price for 2010 in the all milk price so it’s a fairly sharp increase if the numbers come out as we forecast them.

President Barack Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao have announced a far-reaching package of measures to strengthen cooperation between the United States and China on clean energy. The announcement includes the establishment of the U.S.-China Clean Energy Research Center. The Center will facilitate joint research and development of clean energy technologies by teams of scientists and engineers from the United States and China, as well as serve as a clearinghouse to help researchers in each country.

Now with today’s Food Forethought, here’s Lacy Gray.

We’ve all seen the headlines, “Well known evangelist milks millions of dollars from unsuspecting supporters”.  I keep waiting for the news headline, “Humane Society for the United States and PETA administrators’ milk millions of dollars from unsuspecting and well meaning supporters”. It’s inevitable really giving that both groups have been under investigation for “creative financing” recently.  The HSUS which has a yearly budget of over $100 million and more than twice that amount in its coffers continues to stand with its hand out trying to raise $10,000 here and $25,000 there in order to ramp up their anti farmer and rancher campaign. American consumers are accosted daily with false negative imagery aimed at besmirching the very people who put food on their table. HSUS and PETA fail to inform their generous supporters that less than five percent of the donations they rake in actually go toward any type of animal welfare or shelters. As long as they can continue to work up a well meaning but uninformed American public they’ll be more than able to increase their multi million dollar façade.

Thanks Lacy. That’s today’s Northwest Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
