Learning About Farming & Wolf Hunting Closed plus Food Forethought. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

Iraqi farmers have been visiting the U.S and learning ways in which a representative democracy uses its political institutions to support agricultural interests. Speaking through an interpreter, a group of Iraqi farmers tells what message they will take back home from their American agriculture tour.

INTERPRETER: I will share with my farmers the nature of the agricultural NGO’s (non-governmental organizations) in the United States, what is their mission; responsibilities. And also all of the laws that we have here, the different layers of government; federal and state and local. I will share with them also the funding system of NGO’s and  another point that is considered to be a difference between the American system and Iraqi system that the universities here in the United States are responsible for conducting agricultural research while this responsibility is the responsibility of the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture.

A second wolf hunting zone is closed for the season. Hunters reached the limit of 15 wolves in the McCall-Weiser zone in west-central Idaho. Idaho Fish and Game wants to remind hunters to check the harvest limit in zones they intend to hunt. So far, 97 wolves have been killed statewide. The limit is 220.

Now with today’s Food Forethought, here’s Lacy Gray.

One has to wonder how much longer our nation’s legislators are going to continue giving credence to the bizarre and warped way of thinking that envelops America’s self appointed food police.  With most of the public still scratching their heads in amazement at the audacity of these dietary activists insisting lawmakers put a sin tax on sodas it’s hard to believe that they’ve already moved on to their next food victim. And the winner of the newest smear campaign is…fruit juices. Is nothing sacred anymore? Now they’re after our morning o.j.? They claim that in the modern diet “there’s no need for any juice at all”.  Just what does their “modern” diet consist of? Well, so far we know it does not include meat, sugar, corn, milk, even certain vegetables, and now fruit. Your guess is as good as mine as to how they came to this last particular conclusion. At this rate there won’t be any food items that will receive their seal of approval for their American consumer. Be forewarned, if a food contains calories they consider it fair game in their war on obesity.

Thanks Lacy. That’s today’s Northwest Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
