Mobile Slaughterhouse 2
Meat producers…how do you do process that lamb, or beef or poultry that you’re raising on your ranch? Probably somehow have to ship it to a remote processing facility and in so doing, you lose your own personal connection with your product. There’s a huge tidal wave in this country of consumers who want to know where what they are eating is coming from. And this is not a vegetarian, organic, Burkenstock sandal, give peace a chance movement. Not that there’s anything wrong with those things but this is just everyday ag.
OK. There’s a group in Washington that has started a mobile slaughterhouse concept where USDA inspector and a butcher roll up to your property and process your animals. You control where your product is and can tell consumers where their food came from. Cheryl Ouelette of Pierce County, Washington tells you how you can get set up: “You’re gonna call me, we’re gonna bring you a packet that’s got your by-laws, we’ll come over and help you get set up and run your first meeting, see how many farmers you’re serving and animals you need to process pick out the size trailer that best fits your needs and get you rolling.”
