Garrison Creek Cellars

Garrison Creek Cellars

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. I was invited to a private winery in Walla Walla Washington and I was charmed. Today I’ll share my experience at Garrison Creek Cellars.

Just south of downtown Walla Walla sits a magnificent barn in the middle of about 300 acres, most of which is planted in vinifera grapes.  It is an astounding piece of architecture and so sensitive to the landscape it took my breath away. As I entered, I was awestruck, the interior is cathedral like. In fact it is a place of worship and the wine is the subject of adoration. I listened as wine maker David March talked me through the  grape harvest and beginning the wines from the 2009 vintage. Each barrel he refers to as one of his children and - as any good father he works with each of their unique characteristics to bring out what is best in them. They produce only 1,000 cases of red wines from estate fruit. Each vintage may spend up to three years in new oak barrels and afterwards will mature in bottle for an additional three years. Beneath the barn are the caves with wines evolving from previous vintages. I tasted a 2008 Zinfandel from barrel so sumptuous it was difficult to comprehend that it was just going to get better.  Followed by a 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon residing in its barrel –  2013 by the time it is bottle matured and ready for sale, I can hardly wait. The wines are not easily acquired so visit the Garrison Creek Cellars website for details, and thank you for joining me on today’s Vine to Wine.
