Viticulture Center

Viticulture Center

The wine business in Idaho is about to get another shot in the arm and wine makers as well as drinkers would be the beneficiaries. If you have a dream or fantasy about starting your own vineyard, but don’t have the cash to start things rolling, then the  $1.1 million Viticulture Research Center can provide the space and equipment you need in order to learn the ropes…before investing.

Here’s Moya Shatz, Executive Director of the Idaho Grape Growers and Wine Producers Commission to explain: “They’re creating an Education Center. They’re going to teach people who are interested in making wine, they’re going to have a lab. They’re creating these bays for wineries to go in and start a a very affordable price. It’s expensive to start a winery. So for a low affordable price, they’ll have the eqipment, they’ll have the space and you’ll be there for 2-3 years cause it takes time for the wine to sit in the barrels, to get up capital so you can sell the wine before you go out and purchase your own winery.”

The Center will associate with the College of Western Idaho and will eventually provide a 2-year degree in wine-making.
